Welcome Home!
On Monday January 12, Shane returned home from his deployment to Afghanistan. There are not words to express how happy we are to have him back! It is such a relief to have him home safe and sound. It has been fascinating for me to listen to him tell stories of his adventures in Afghanistan- he really had some amazing experiences. I thought that I would put some of his pictures from his deployment on my blog so that my family and friends could see them, too. In this case, a picture really is worth a thousand words. In the picture below, Shane's plane had just arrived here on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa and I had just picked him up. What a wonderful moment!

That was an emotional start to my day - but such a sweet one. We are thrilled that you are ALL together again. Welcome home Shane! We can't wait to hear all of your stories told Shaner-D style. . . minus the mustache.
After getting a very small peek of your life the past 6 months through Jasmine, pictures and now the blog I have to say one recurring thought comes to mind - how grateful I am to you and the men and women who serve our country. I take great comfort in knowing that there are people like you who are willing to sacrifice their lives when called to duty. I'm sure that doesn't sound very original, however I don't think I've ever expressed it to you - my only family member(thus far)who has served our country. The picture of you transporting the injured to Germany speaks a thousand words. It warms my heart to know that those who were so close to death's door and so far from family were transported with care by you.
We are so proud of you. We love you. Again, welcome home. . . or at least to Japan. Doesn't matter, home is where ever your family is, right. But please move back to Texas soon!
I just want to ditto what Emily just said. Seriously, thank you for the sacrifices you and your family make in behalf of our country. We love you guys! We are so glad you are home safe and sound Shane!
Wow, I'm so glad you posted some pictures of what Shane has been doing. I can't imagine what you were feeling when you were able to pick him up!! What an amazing experience, I'm sure. I'm so glad he's safe and sound and that you are together again. Thank you for your service and sacrafices!
So happy for you guys. Shane has been in our prayers and in our minds.
Jasmine - Ditto to what has been said about Shane and his service. I am so happy your family is complete again. Tom is gone a lot and I complain way too much. This puts my life in perspective.
My brothers and I all just finished reading The Audacity of Hope as sort of a sibling book club read. I especially found the chapters on Faith and Values inspiring. It's something I think every citizen should read. If only. Again, I echo, there can't be words to say how thankful we are to people like Shane, and YOU and your kids. It's a huge sacrifice.
I'm so glad Shane made it home safe and sound. By the way, we are heading to San Antonio in June for the allergy fellowship. Would love to see ya'll heading that way next year. Call me sometime, I'd love to chat. Patsy
Hi Jasmine! It's Stephanie Paulson. I followed the link here from your Timpview 91 page. It was great to get a peek at your family and your life. Amazing pictures from Afghanistan. What an incredible service your husband (and your family) provides.
